In August, Charles Hamilton announced that he was leaving the "Club" due to beef with Wale and an issue with Blu, which is a story in itself. He is, however, still featured on the ACCC's first song. We'll see if he decides to rejoin the "Club" but that seems unlikely. *kanye shrug* Oh well!!! His loss. These are some of the hottest hip hop artists out right now. If not, the hottest! They can definitely make it work without him.
According to HipHopDX, Lupe announced the formation of the group in an interview with Sirius Radio's Hip Hop Nation. He describes it as more of a movement than a group. Here is how and why Lupe came up with the idea:
“I just wanted it to be the collective of those dudes and put a name on it,” said Lupe. “Like they already kinda put us all in the same box. They kinda put us in the same family of MC’s whether it be the hipster rappers or the nerd rappers…Since they putting us in a box, might as well own the box. And write our name on the box and paint it the color we want it.”
Here is how he came up with the name:
“It’s kinda this new vanguard,” Lupe explained in his interview. “The kids who wouldn’t necessarily be the basketball team they would probably be the Chess Club if we was in high school. And I was like ‘Yo, we all from different cities. We the All City Chess Club."
This is an impressive group of artists. Their music individually is already mind-blowing but for them to come together is astronomical! I'm sure you are wondering if there will be an LP or at least a mixtape? There is no news of that, as of yet. We'll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, check out their blog and Facebook page. You can also check out their individual projects that they may be working on. Until next time...
