Normally I’m all about writing show reviews, but I really feel like this artist needs a spotlight greater than a show review can provide. So, I’m just going to say that his El Paso show at the Republic was great and I’m going to move forward and introduce you all to BobbyBrandNew! Cool? If not, I really don’t care because you know I’m gonna do whatever I wanna do...GOSH! :-p

Usually when you speak of treasures of the Southwest, you may immediately think of jewelry, turquoise in particular. Perhaps you think of arrowheads, scenic mountain landscapes, or Native American pottery. This ain’t your average southwest treasure! Mine comes in the form of hip hop and his name is BobbyBrandNew...PING! Good local hip hop in the southwest? Unheard of, I know. This kid is the truth though. I really couldn’t believe that talent like his existed in our region.
I was first introduced to him back in November of 2010 when he opened up for J. Cole at The Clubhouse in Tempe, AZ. I’m not even going to lie, when I first saw him walk up on stage, I thought “who is this corny looking dude in these bright ass red jeans?” I might have even whispered that to Mixtape Chic to the right of me. Cue the music (live band) and the bars. My next thought was “oh shit...this dude is nice! You hear him?!” Ha ha. Needless to say, I ate my words and was hooked.
There is something about BobbyBrandNew that allows him to grab the attention of the crowd and make them listen. Not every artist possesses this unique ability. You hear a lot of people talk about good artists and say that their lyrics are genius, but their live delivery needs work. Well, BobbyBrandNew already has it! I witnessed this not only on myself and our crew at the Tempe show, but also in El Paso, TX at the Republic show. Let me explain (my show review portion of this story).

Here we were (Social Chic and I) at the Republic, a nightclub that played a ridiculous amount of dance/house/psuedo-reggaetone music with a dash of some whack hip hop. When I say a dash, I mean 3 songs in the hour and a half that we were sitting there (I was dying inside). Long story short, I was really wondering how BobbyBrandNew was going to get this crowd engaged. Wiz Khalifa’s “Black and Yellow” comes on (actually it was T-Pain’s auto-tune infused version of the song which tells you something about the establishment) and people head to the dance floor. BobbyBrandNew jumps on the stage next and gets it started. Instead of people disbursing (which I thought might happen), they all turned to him and listened. The heads started bobbing, the girls started looking, the fellas started hatin’. It was amazing to witness! Translation for the current generation, the dude has some serious SWAG. Our friend that we took with us (who had never heard his music before) tweeted during the show “Ok, BobbyBrandNew. I see you doing your thing. Thank God you finally performing. You saved my night at Republic!“ I threw that in there so you all don’t think I’m being bias. That’s just what happens when you hear it go down. Mind you, this was without his live band, too. Add the band and it’s a wRap for sure, but BobbyBrandNew shows that he can get it done without as well.

At a self proclaimed 5’ 9.75” in height, BobbyBrandNew stands 7 feet tall. When you see him live, you realize that he has something special. Saying someone is going to be big and make it in the game is super cliche, but he definitely has star power. The southwest needs to back him 100%, because he is someone we can truly be proud of.
A Mexican-American, born in Los Angeles and raised in El Paso, TX, Robert Delgado currently resides in Phoenix, Arizona. A cool, funny, articulate guy who is serious and passionate about his music. He does not play games. Music over everything for Bobby. He’s professional and has done his homework. You can hear it in his music. Buy his CD, BrandNewEra and it’s written and heard all over it. I recommend “One Day” and “Vison,” two of my favorite tracks. His sound is unique. There’s no comparing him to any other artist out right now.

For those that know me, or follow my blog posts, you may notice that I’m picky about my hip hop. I have high expectations and I’m not easily pleased (not that pleasing me even matters to you all). So for me to support a local southwest artist like this is a big deal. He’s probably also the only artist I’ll allow to flow over a J. Cole track without getting upset about it. Only because he can do that! In all seriousness though, ya’ll really need to get on the BobbyBrandNew train now before it takes off.
You think I’m full of shit? Well, see for yourself then. You can catch him this weekend (February 26th) opening up for E-40 at The Clubhouse in Tempe, Arizona. To be honest, I’d go see him and pass on E-40...lol. Continuing on with the plugs:
Wow I'm one of bobbys friends and biggest fans. I'm so unbelievably proud of him and I support him in all he is doing. But to see you someone who doesn't even know him say these things about him is amazing the support your showing and the positive vibe your giving to his name is awesome. Everything about him is so real and he is southwest nations musical savior "turn on the radio is a musical recession" he's sweeping the southwest nation and taking by storm and no one can stop him the haters can just fuel his fire. You put it the absolute best everyone does need to jump on this train cause he is taking off real soon! Love you bobby <3 this review was amazing and so appreciated for other people to see the guy that all us out here know love and support!!
