Lupe Fiasco - April 21st Arizona Show
![]() |
Lupe Fiasco in Arizona – how could I miss this? I missed his performance a couple of months ago at the Hotel Theodore and I was determined not to miss this showstopper again. Prime Social Group brought Lupe to the Mesa Amphitheater on Thursday in front of a 4,000+ crowd of fans, supporters and the always present, groupies. The lovely Yaya Martinez of 98.3 hosted the show and got the crowd ready for the opening acts and none other than Lupe Fiasco.
I’m going to keep the opening acts convo short – Cut Throat Logic and New F-O’s opened up for Lupe. I am not sure how they made the cut (Bobby Brand New would have been the perfect choice), but they each did their own thing, it is just not what I prefer. You can find both acts on Google J
*Sidenote: During the opening acts, I gently and kindly pushed my way to the front only to be stuck next to a group of male groupies who had NO problem pushing me, elbowing me, stepping on me and otherwise showing the chivalry is dead. However, I kindly and gently elbowed them out of the way just in time for…
Lupe Fiasco. Simply, he killed it. His energy, charisma and slightly eccentric personality immediately captured the crowd and had us rocking from his first song, “Shining Down” from his new album LASERS and, next up he performed “The Instrumental” from Food & Liquor. Lupe also went ahead and performed “State Run Radio,” “Out of My Head,” “The Show Goes On,” and “Beautiful Laser” from LASERS. The crowd was also fortunate that Lupe performed two of my favorite songs, “Words I Never Say,” and “Hip Hop Saved My Life.” I wish I had more than 15 seconds of footage for “Words I Never Say,” but seeing as how it is one of my favorite Lupe songs, I couldn’t contain my excitement and had to stop filming! During the show, we also got classics such as “Kick, Push,” “Superstar,” and “Daydreamin.”
Lupe performed a new song called “Scream” that I assume will appear on his next album (as we all know LASERS is NOT his last album.) This song reminds me of Food & Liquor Lupe -- a treat for all of us Hip Hop heads. He also got the crowd hype with “Go Go Gadget,” from The Cool.
He also went presidential on us and reminded the youth to get out in their communities, be active, and show the world that we are not lazy and unappreciative, but that we care as much as anyone about what happens to our future. (If Lupe decides to stop rapping, he should just be a motivational speaker.)
Oh, I can’t forget, MDMA and Lupe’s band killed it! His bassist Eric Hammer and keyboardist Matt are both from his band Japanese Cartoon and his drummer rocked out just as hard.
Check out some footage below.

SMH NEWS!!
Skull Duggery Sentenced to 6 years in Prison; Game Detained in Canada; 50 Cent Falls Victim to Credit Card Fraud; Flesh-N-Bone Claims Krayzie Bone is Disrespecting Eazy E; An Organization Claiming Ownership of the Word ‘Hip Hop’…
Skull Duggery, formerly of No Limit Records, has been sentenced to six years in prison for possession of child pornography. In 2009, police went to his home to carry out a warrant that was issued for suspicion of drugs and weapons possession. While searching the property, police found images that they described as the ‘rape and sexual abuse of children.’ On Monday, he plead guilty to the charges and was sentenced to six years, although he was facing twenty. He had already been convicted of indecent behavior with a juvenile.
This is the type of stuff that disgusts me to no end. What. In. The. Blue. Hell?! Why is this dude even out of jail from the last conviction? And he only got six years on this charge? F—KING RIDICULOUS! *RZA voice* If I was a judge and this dude came into my courtroom, he definitely would have served the permissible sentence of twenty years. Apparently, there’s no possibility of parole, probation or sentence suspension. How about we add “no possibility of getting out in six years”? SMH…
Compton rapper Game was refused entry to Canada and detained by border officials yesterday after trying to enter Canada to perform his ‘Red Nation’ tour dates. All dates have now been cancelled. He is being detained until his hearing with the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB). Game tweeted:
“I'm being detained in Canada for 14 days until they process my inadmissibility then I'll have a hearing heard by a judge. At that point the judge will decide to either deport me or give me a sentence for violating Canada's immigrant entry laws. F%cked up situation !!! But at least they let me call home, & tweet before they lock a n!gga up !!! Gotta turn in my property, y'all be kool."
His criminal record is the likely cause of detainment. Canada is known for rejecting people who have lengthy criminal records. Officials stated that the promoters led Game to believe that he would be able to enter Canada, although he hasn’t been allowed into Canada since he released The Documentary.
I have got one thing to say…NEVER BELIEVE EVERYTHING A PROMOTER TELLS YOU. At the end of the day, they are just trying to get their money just like you. They had to have known about the laws and circumstances regarding this situation. If they didn’t, then they need to step their game up quick! You can’t have someone coming from another country and not know the laws and regulations of entry. That’s what I call stupid and irresponsible. SMH…
For the fifth time since 2007, 50 Cent’s credit card information was used fraudulently. Two men tried to use 50’s card at a Best Buy to purchase two flat-screen TVs. The TVs were supposed to be delivered but the owner of the store became suspicious so he didn’t deliver them. Instead, he had them come to the store to pick them up, where they were arrested. A source stated that the two men were not the masterminds behind the whole thing. My response to that is…SO! They did that mess and tried to go pick up the TVs so they deserve to be arrested just like whoever is masterminding it.
How stupid are you to think you can use 50 Cent’s credit card? I mean there has got to be so many people watching every move on his credit statements. Especially since this isn’t the first time it’s happened. Can we please put these fools on the list of “The World’s Dumbest Criminals”? SMH…
Krayzie Bone has officially left Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, after 20 years of being with the group. Although, he had nothing but good things to say in his statement:
“I just wanted to take the time out right now to let everybody know about some major changes in my career and in my life. Just so everybody knows that I will no longer be a part of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony due to uncontrollable circumstances. It’s basically time for me to move on with different endeavors that I’ve already had planned in my life.”
Flesh-N-Bone, however, did not have anything nice to say about him:
“What the fuck do people mean it aint no Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, because Krayzie's bitch ass decided he wanted to quit? Man, fuck Krayzie, homie. Put that in the paper. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony gonna keep moving as Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, man. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony don't consist of no motherfucking Krayzie Bone, man. It consists of Flesh, Bizzy, Wish, Krayzie and Layzie. Just because one ni**a decided to quit don't mean it’s over for Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.”
Krayzie did not iterate what the actual circumstances were regarding his departure but Flesh had his take on the situation:
“Me, Layzie and Bizzy did a couple of shows by ourselves out here and sold out and it was phenomenal. And they loved the energy of seeing Bizzy on stage back with his brothers. That's what the fans wanted to see. Krayzie and Wish hate Bizzy Bone so much, they didn't want him to get on the stage,” Flesh said.
"Krayzie [Bone] might as well say 'Fuck Eazy-E' because he is disrespecting Eazy-E's legacy by leaving the group,"
Whoa! He has some serious animosity towards Krayzie. I don’t see what the problem is. It’s been 20 years. If the man wants to move on let him. You say he left because of Bizzy yet he did this last album with all of you, including Bizzy and I am pretty sure that Bizzy left the group last year. On another note, leaving the group is not in any way disrespecting Eazy-E’s legacy. We will always know that he created Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. Why are you so mad? People leave! IT’S LIFE! GET OVER IT! SMH…
The Portugal based National Hip Hop Association (NHHA) may possibly be selling rights to words they don’t even own. According to HipHopDX.com, a Portuguese Hip Hop blogger and journalist stated that the organization claims to have trademarks from the National Institute of Intellectual Property for the words: New School, Old School, Popping, Locking, B-Boy, B-girl, New Style, Old Style, Beatbox, Street Dance, Hip-Hop, MC, DJ, Graffiti, and Breakdance.
That’s not the most ridiculous part about the whole situation. They are also charging, yes charging, anyone who uses those words with a certification and licensing fee as well as requiring them to join their organization.
According to the National Institute of Intellectual Property, all of the above listed words are free of use.
Well, duh! Who in the world is going to tell anybody they can’t use any of these words? This is everyday vocabulary for anyone who loves and embraces Hip Hop culture. I wish somebody would tell me not to say “MC”, or “DJ” for that matter. That’s like Paris Hilton telling me I can’t say “that’s hot.” She would get slapped just like everybody in the NHHA needs to be slapped for every word on their list. Who’s down? I kid. I kid. These words/phrases were here before you existed and they will be here when you are long gone. The NHHA is tripping with a capital T! I am not surprised that they aren’t responding to the accusations. They know they have been caught. SMH...

In honor of the one year anniversary of Guru's death yesterday (April 19th), I decided to post a few of his best songs. Of course, there were many to choose from so it was tough to narrow it down. Guru left a lasting impression and influence in the Hip Hop culture; historically mixing Hip Hop and Jazz, creating a new genre within music.

Gutter Rainbows/Grind-N-Hustle Show Review
Once again, Photo Chic and I went on a journey for hip-hop. We headed to Albuquerque, where we met up with Mixtape Chic, for one of the 'livest' concerts I've been to in New Mexico.
Doors opened at 8 and for some reason the Dj played a club mix which incorporated mostly reggae and dancehall. My Jamaican side loved it, but as a Hip-Hop head I was annoyed. But the show goes on...
At 8:45 Dee-1 began his 25 minute set. He performed "its my turn," which was bomb, but of course Albuquerque did not know what was going on. One of the songs that stayed with me was "Jay, 50 and weezy"; he had great stage presence. The lyrics "You the reason I stopped buying ja-rule" was priceless. You could feel his confidence. His bars were exceptional and left good impressions. The line "lyrically we're free, but we're still some mental slaves" had the crowd goin crazy!
Killer mike began his 20 minute set. He opened with "Never scared" followed by "Body rock." Albuquerque was obviously waiting for this southern performance."Nu Nu" and "All day I dream about sex" had the Crowd enticed.
The southern style continued with Young Dro. He performed a few of my favorites; "My girl gotta girlfriend" and "Beat down low." His new joint "polo down" left a promising impression. He finished his set with "Dj bring it back," "Shoulder lean," and "ain't I." The southern flavor was a smooth transition and made the concert an interesting collaboration of Hip-hop.
Pac div came up next with a 40 minute set. Their opening song, "Wat it is one time," was too Live! These three young men had the Crowd jumping, pumping and getting it. Dro accompanied them on stage increasing their presence and the crowds intensity.(One of my favorite parts of the performance had to be the Naughty by nature sweatshirt.) "You kno this ya fucking song" was a crowd pleaser. Pac Div is a strong group and their songs went 'ham' but the set list seemed to be the wrong selection for the Albuquerque crowd.
The next DJ was pretty good. He had Jay-z blazing. Followed by: "we gon make it," and "Bad boys". He incorporated mainstream hip hop to intrigue the club goers. Including: "No hands," "kryptonite",and "what you kno about that."
At 10:47 Fashawn's Dj set up followed by a 40 minute set by Fashawn. He performed a few tracks including: "G's & Hustlas," "Mary Jane," and "Saturday". Personally i enjoyed "nothin for the radio" which was produced by j. Cole. It demonstrated my irritation for the lack of good music on the air waves.
Finally, at 11:35 (right on time), it was time for Talib to hit the stage. His 50 minute set list was amazing! he hit the stage with "Turn it up," "I'm on one," "In this world," "Keep on dancin," "you know what love is," "Hot thang," "Keep going" and a few other tracks. Although it was freezing in this venue, people were leaving, and complaining, but not us We were zoned in. My track "Lonely people." Came on and I went wild. Sampling the Beatles "Eleanor Rigby" was genius. The song in it self has deep meaning, and with Talib's bars added to the mix, its an amazing track. But that is beside the point. His performance was amazing; Point blank period. Young Dro later accompanied Talib to perform "Overload." Talib's performance of Gutter Rainbows was epic he also bought Jean Grae who performed "Uh Oh." Her stage presence; phenomenal! Jean Grae performed her own song followed by "Black Girl Pain" with Talib. The set ended with "How you love me."
When Kweli left the stage the crowd chanted for him to return. He then came back and performed a 15minute encore.
Once again hip-hop saved my week. You can't have a bad Monday when you're anticipating a Talib concert, its not possible. The blending of the two concerts was exceptional. It only happened in Albuquerque, of all places, and the Hip Hop Chicz were there to witness it.

Doors opened at 8 and for some reason the Dj played a club mix which incorporated mostly reggae and dancehall. My Jamaican side loved it, but as a Hip-Hop head I was annoyed. But the show goes on...

Killer mike began his 20 minute set. He opened with "Never scared" followed by "Body rock." Albuquerque was obviously waiting for this southern performance."Nu Nu" and "All day I dream about sex" had the Crowd enticed.

So Live Saturday--Dee-1 at Sunshine
This video is extremely dark...we know. That's why we leave the filming to the professionals. V6M will have footage and interviews from this event coming soon and of course we'll let you know when that happens. As far as Dee-1 goes, you really don't need to see him, you need to hear him. So that's why we decided to post this video even though it's dark. It's about the lyrics! (but if you just have to see him: Look Book and INTERVIEW) Enjoy.

SMH NEWS!!
SMH News...Apr 14
Ashley Judd calls Rap/Hip Hop “rape” culture; Gucci Mane Arrested; 2 European Rappers arrested…
So Ashley Judd released a new book All That is Bitter, and Sweet, and quickly received backlash for some statements that she made regarding Hip Hop/Rap and “rape” culture.
"As far as I'm concerned, most Rap and Hip Hop music--with its rape culture and insanely abusive lyrics and depictions of girls and women as 'ho's'--is the contemporary soundtrack of misogyny. I believe that the social construction of gender--the cultural beliefs and practices that divide the sexes and institutionalize and normalize the unequal treatment of girls and women, privilege the interest of boys and men, and, most nefariously, incessantly sexualize girls and women--is the root cause of poverty and suffering around the world."
My first thoughts after reading this…”WHAT THE H-E-DOUBLE HOCKEY STICK IS THIS WOMAN TALKING ABOUT?” This statement is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. You should blame ANY music, in general, for someone’s circumstances and you cannot put all Rap/Hip Hop in the same category.
Ashley eventually received so much backlash that she decided to apologize.
“My intention was to support artists to know that we have so much power,” she told Russell Simmons. “They make incredible life changing impressions, particularly on the young. And we have choices everyday with our expressions, either empower and celebrate people or to reinforce inequality and degradation.”
Artists know that they make impressions on kids but it is not their responsibility to change what they do just to fit what you think is right. It’s the parents’ job to make sure that their child does what is right. She then stated:
"The outcry regarding my remarks, 2 paragraphs out of my 400+ page book, regarding hip hop and rap, has been astounding as it is out of context…The general theme [now] is to express my gratitude for a chance to learn, to be corrected where I was wrong, to make amends, and hold firm and strong on the original intention and context of points I made, with a commitment to try to do so less clumsily and with more sensitivity in the future."
"I so regret that my indictment of rape culture as a whole has been interpreted as me blaming rap and hip hop exclusively. That was absolutely not my intention, and I so regret it has had that effect on some people. "
Apology appreciated but how about not making ridiculous statements in that manner EVER again. The fact that you decided to point out that it was only in two paragraphs is dumb. I don’t care if it was two sentences, it shouldn’t have been said. Next time, think before you speak...SMH
Gucci Mane was arrested and charged with battery on Friday, for an incident that happened in January, after a visit to his probation officer. He is being accused of pushing a woman out of a moving vehicle and faces jail time for it as well as violating his probation. So here’s how it allegedly went down:
1. He picked her up at a mall and invited her to breakfast
2. At breakfast he offered her $150 to go to a hotel with him
3. She refused
4. He pushed her out of the car…while it was moving
Dang Gucci! You couldn’t stop the car before making her get out? Why even let her get back in your car? This can’t be the first time someone has told you no. I know what you were thinking and maybe you even said, “But I’m Gucci Mane,” and then proceeded to rap about lemonade or as you say "nemonade." Next time, just let the girl out and go find somebody else that is careless enough to mess with you…SMH
Two UK rappers were arrested last week. One was arrested for attempted murder and the other for murdering a Royal Navy officer and seriously wounding another.
K. Koke, who was recently signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, was arrested last week for allegedly shooting a man in the back at a train station on March 9. He was arrested after the police raided his home. Four other people (teenagers) were charged along with him. He will be in custody until his court date of June 15th.
This just does not sound right to me. You're 25! Why are you with 16 and 17 year-olds? If he really did this then he is straight foolish. You got signed to Roc Nation! It doesn’t get much better than that. YOU ARE MESSING UP! Well, you know what we say here in the states…”innocent until proven guilty”…SMH
Ryan Donovan, a UK rapper formerly known as Reggie Moondogg, was accused of murdering a Royal Navy officer and wounding another after losing his temper for being refused permission to leave the submarine that they were on. He began firing his SA80 rifle while making his way towards the control room. A local official visiting the submarine named Royston Smith tackled Donovan before he could shoot or kill anyone else.
This dude is off the wall! So you just go around shooting people because they wouldn’t let you off the boat. It can’t be that serious! SMH
