J. Cole-Any Given Sunday #1

So, last week we found out that J. Cole wasn't going to drop a mixtape before the album. Today we find out he is dropping new material every Sunday until the album drops.  I like this even better than a mixtape. Check out the material he is starting with below.  Gotta love J. Cole!!!!

1. Like A Star- Was saving this for the 2nd album. Due to some other shit beyond my control, I’ma let this out now.
2. Knock On Wood- One of my fav. freestyles. OG Dreamvillains gotta be reminded, new fans gotta get put on.
3. Pity- Brand new J. Cole, Omen, Voli. Produced by Voli @volitheentity
4. How High- at one point this was guaranteed to go on The Sideline Story.
5. Unabomber- Just heard this today for the first time in a longgg time. Love these raps.

Studio Sunday: 9th Wonder and Nas?!

Check out this ridiculous beat that 9th Wonder made for Nas in 2009. We'll let 9th do the talking and you all can listen and tell us what you think. This is a perfect beat for Nas in my opinion. Hopefully he picked it up. Woooooo...

SMH NEWS!!

Its been a while since I have done one of these posts but the mess that I just came across has caused me to: Shake. My. Head.

First we have, female rapper (her words not mine), V-Nasty responding to the backlash shes been getting for dropping the N-Word a few too many times...

Oh...and she is so serious! This is no joke... Clearly, she's oblivious to others and doesn't care what they say about it. She just needs to stop. Just because you drop the N-Word does not mean that you will be respected or considered a gangster rapper. How you grew up and being in jail (yes, she has been to jail & just got out) does not give you the right to use that word. This is straight foolery with a capital F! Done!

Next up...

We have a J. Cole impostor. I was on a hip hop website (no name needed) came across this song that they had labeled as a J. Cole track entitled "Regrets". I went to check it out...anything J. Cole is worth it. Now, if you're a J. Cole fan, you know how he sounds on his tracks. Take a listen here...

THAT IS NOT J COLE! If  you couldn't tell...shame. I was beyond pissed when I heard this. How dare you sit there and try to pass your whack mess off as Mr. Cole World. Yes, he's one of the hottest out right now but seriously. I don't like perpetrators. Its a shame that you have to use someone else's name to get your music heard. You must think its bad if you can't even put it under your own moniker.

This is Mixtape Chic reporting today's Hip Hop ChicZ SMH News...

J. Cole-Watch the Throne

Let me just say that for the most part, I HATE radio interviews. No disrespect intended, but a lot of them are usually way too excited to hear themselves talk and talk over artists. It just seems like standard radio policy.  However, this one touches some good topics so I decided to go ahead and post. Key points include: No mixtape coming out. J. Cole is just going to be releasing his songs (that aren't on the album) here and there leading up to the album release. J. Cole says he will be touring starting late August. His ideal release date would have been September 13th. He also talks about Watch the Throne.  Two other possible feature artists besides Jay-Z and Trey Songz will possibly be on the album (I think one of them is Miguel).

At this time we're not really sure if "Can't Get Enough" ft Trey Songz (leaked a few days ago) is THAT album song. There may be another collab for the album and this track may be one of J. Cole's "mixtape" left over songs that we were slid.  It's hard to tell at this moment.  Since we don't know if it was Cole approved or not, we won't be sharing it. We don't support unauthorized leaks (even if we're not really sure if it's a leak...lol). :-)

Wind-it-Back Wednesday-Missy Elliott

Since I was talking about Missy Elliott the other day I figured I'd wind it back to the early 2000s and show you some videos. Like I said before, I think Missy Elliott often gets over-looked when we name our favorite female emcees. Missy changed the game when she came on the scene. Even men took note and followed suite. I know everyone thought she was crazy when she first popped up on Mtv with the garbage bag outfit. We were not ready. I love that Missy has always stayed true to herself and has been crazy successful based off of her talent alone, instead of using sexuality gimmicks. Y'all cannot deny her hotness!!!

I love Hot Boyz!

J. Cole: A Subliminal Message to my Fans...

That's what J. Cole uses to describe the hook to his song with Jay-Z for his album Cole World: The Sideline Story. I'm kind of disapointed that Jay isn't giving J. Cole the time of day for some actual "joint" studio time to lay down his verse, but I suppose he's a little too busy watching the throne. Can you blame him though? J. Cole is about to change the game on 9/27/11. Can't wait!

Puma & DJBooth.net Present UNCONTESTED

Puma and DJBooth.net have teamed up to bring you their UNCONTESTED EP. The newly released EP features tracks from Laws, Thee Tom Hardy, Emilio Rojas as well as others. Uncontested is truly fitting as the title of this EP. When I hear "uncontested" I think of something that can not be or is rarely ever questioned. In this case, that 'something' are the emcees' lyrical abilities. Of course, they aren't liked by everyone but they are appreciated by most. So you can see why these select few were chosen.

These tracks were leaked to give listeners a sneak peak of the EP:

Gilbere Forte - Winner

Emilio Rojas - Home

Laws - Incredible

We Are Not Groupies. We Are Hip-Hop Heads!

Let me just start by saying this article is the whole reason our blog exists. We want people to know that there are female hip hop heads and a lot of us, for that matter.  When I was reading this, I felt like I could have written the story. It's not one that we're unfamiliar with, unfortunately.
I know this lady simply as @Onyx127, one of our first twitter followers who happened to be a Delta. She always stuck out to me because she showed love to our site from the jump. Now we have the distinct pleasure of working together in the JAMLA ARMY, the digital marketing group created by 9th Wonder for his label.  I had to share her words with everyone so without further delay:

"We Are Not Groupies. We Are Hip-Hop Heads!"
What sparked my need to blog about this is last week on Twitter, one of the trending topics was #1waytopissmeoff. I thought for a little while, and then I knew exactly what I was going to say: #1waytopissmeoff Call me a groupie bcuz I love #hiphop. Don’t try 2 reduce my passion 4 this culture 2 something cheap just bcuz I’m female!
Now, let me tell you where this all stems from…
On August 30, 2010 around 3:00 a.m., those words were spoken by my friend, Kat, who lives in Alabama. She had flown up to DC two days prior so that we could attend Rock the Bells together. After the show, we went to our hotel. Things could not have worked out better for us because we ended up running into RZA, Bokeem Woodbine, ODB’s son, Method Man, and the organizers of Rock the Bells. We were ecstatic that we got to meet them.
Instead of going to bed, Kat and I decided to hang out in the lobby to see who else might be staying in the same hotel. There were some guys chilling out, too. As they were walking away, one of them said, “Groupies.” Kat shouted across the lobby, “We are not groupies! We are HIP-HOP HEADS!” Those words have stood out to me ever since then.
Why did those guys assume just because we were two females chilling in the hotel lobby that we were on our groupie flow? No, never that! Kat and I are just two PEOPLE who love hip-hop. We just happen to have been born female. That’s it. We love hip-hop just as much as dudes. We are not groupies. We are not seeking to become a part of rappers’ sexual conquests. We only seek to meet the artists who we admire and let them know that we appreciate the music they make. That’s all!
Just recently, I was having a conversation with a guy about music. He asked what I like, “I said, ‘hip-hop.’” His response was, “Oh, you’re a groupie.” My reaction was like Queen Latifah in her U.N.I.T.Y. song, “I punched him dead in his eye and said, ‘Who you calling a…’” Well, I didn’t punch him dead in his eye, but I had to let him know what the deal really is.
Whenever I go to a hip-hop show, I’m very conscious of what I wear because I don’t want people to get the wrong idea about me. I’ll throw on a fitted tee, some jeans, and my Timbs before a cute blouse, shorts, and some open-toed 3-inch heels. As I’m sitting here typing this, I’m asking myself, “Why are you letting someone else’s ideas dictate what you will or won’t wear to a show?” From now on, I’m gonna wear what my heart desires, and I will rock just as hard if not harder than the next man. All I know is if one of these ignorant dudes tries to disrespect me, I’m now on my Latifah flow. Who you calling a …!

Source: SYDtheBSL
Let the hip hop church say AMEN!

P.S. Just had to add that we (as females) don't run around calling every dude a male groupie if they vibe to hip hop. Male groupies are out there, though. Y'all are deep, rude and pathetic at times. You know who you are. Just chill. Lol.

medafORACLE (Look Book)

medafORACLE is an emcee's emcee residing in Phoenix, AZ. Nourished on Hip Hop he lives and breaths it daily and it shows in every song he writes and records. Known for his witty punch lines and trickery word play, he mixes this into songs containing substance and content. This is what separates him from other emcees. Featured on Green Lantern's "MySpace Takeover" mix tape in 2007, he released his own entitled "Abandoned Tracks" in 2010. Other previous releases are "The Forgotten Son"-2005 "Long Live Hip Hop EP"-2007 "Food, Rent, Water or Gas"-2009 and "FINDINMED"-2010. His latest project "Global Soul" is set for release late summer of 2011 with producer Beatofreen from the Netherlands. Not only known as an emcee medafORACLE is also a producer and mixing engineer. He produces for other local and independent artists. An artist and emcee of such type is not created, he is born and chosen. No need of wondering where Hip Hop has gone and if it's still alive because it is. medafORACLE proves this every second as he continues to keep it alive.

Q-Tip Brings Out Kanye West at BHHF

At the 2011 Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival the headliner Q-Tip brings out Kanye West and after he performed a few tracks of his own he backs up Tip for the track Award Tour off the classic Midnight Marauders album...

I know I should be commenting on how awesome it was to see Q-Tip and Mr. West share the stage, but we already know this.  Therefore, I would like to comment on something else that stood out to me in this performance.  Is it just me or is Q-Tip looking a little like Jermaine Jackson's twin?  I'm just sayin.  All jokes aside, I wish I could have been in Brooklyn for this though...real talk.

In case you all missed him last week in Las Cruces, here is a little sample of what went down. I heard he killed Q-Time. Wish I could have been there to see it for myself. Stay tuned for his "Look Book" posting on Tuesday, because you know I had to squeeze in a photo shoot. :-)

Pusha T and Tyler, The Creator Cuttin Up...

...for Pusha T's new video for "Trouble on my Mind."  Granted, I'm not a huge fan of Tyler, but I couldn't help but laugh at the foolishness behind the scenes of this video.  I'm looking forward to seeing the end result.  Looks like they had a lot of fun.
